COMMISSION PAINTINGS

I love painting something that has a special meaning for my clients and capturing the essence of their chosen subject.

This acrylic painting - sized 120cm x 90cm, was commissioned by a client who wanted me to capture the essence of the amazing beauty she experiences when watching the sun setting over the Brindabellas, a mountain range near her home in Canberra.

Who Commissions Paintings from You?

People who want a Nature-Based Painting that will create an uplifting feeling for their Home or Business environment.

People generally commission me to paint something that has Special Meaning to them. They want the Painting to capture the essence of a specific place, or experience that has fond memories for them. They may also request a unique painting to infuse a natural ambience into their chosen Living or Work space.

How does the Commission Process work?

After contacting me, we discuss the project in depth, to ensure I understand the full scope of what my client wants. This will then involve a meeting to view the physical space where the painting will hang and to fine-tune more details, such as the size and orientation of the planned Artwork. We discuss design concepts, colour schemes and look at any photographs that may inspire the direction of the painting. I will then go back to my studio and create one or more concept designs, from which my client will choose one and sign off on, before the actual painting process can commence.

How long does the Commission Process take?

The initial planning stages with my client can take 1 - 2 weeks, depending on the type and complexity of the painting commission.

Once the client has signed off on the chosen concept, the painting itself can begin and this can take approximately 5-9 weeks, again depending on the size, style, complexity and so on.

Every painting consists of an initial sketch phase, where the subject is drawn onto the canvas. Then with a variety of paint colours, a blocking in of shapes, tones, lights and shadows, will create the initial foundation layer of the painting. Every painting typically consists of multiple layers of work over the foundation layer, each new layer gradually bringing the subject to life on the canvas. The time each layer takes will be different for each painting.

How much does the Commission cost?

Once the client has signed off on the design concept a deposit of $1,100.00 is made before I commence the painting process.

Again material costs will vary from one Artwork to another, plus the time taken to complete the work has a large bearing on the final cost. I will generally give a ball-park amount at the time the commission is signed off on, however the final cost could be more, or less than this amount.

Artwork Installation

Each Painting will be fitted with the appropriate hanging system on the back of the Artwork, as per previous discussions about the artwork installation requirements of my client.

The complexity and size of the painting will often determine the time taken and cost of the final Artwork.
